Challenger 1000 Series tractors are the industry’s most versatile standard tractor and the ‘must-see’ innovation for 2016. Designed to deliver lower cost of ownership per acre, advanced connectivity and world-class Challenger performance, they are available in four powerful models ranging from 396 to 517 engine horsepower. Producers will get their first look at the tractors during the 2016 Farm Progress Show in Boone, Iowa, Aug. 30-Sept.1.“The needs of producers in North America continue to evolve as operations become larger and require more efficiency,” says Josh Keeney, tactical marketing manager at AGCO. “The Challenger 1000 Series tractors bring an entirely new solution to the market. Add to this the tractor’s full suite of on-board technology and an all-new, comfort-focused cab, and these tractors are a single solution for today’s high horsepower needs, from planting and heavy tillage or row crop work to harvesting and on-road hauling up to 31 mph.Redefining productivity through precision All Challenger 1000 Series models are equipped with the ISO-compliant AccuTerminal™ for intuitive, one-stop control of all tractor and implement functions. Luis de Garrido’s Prefab Green Box

first_imgOne of the featured displays at the Construmat building showcase in Barcelona is the Spanish architect’s transportable garden houseGreen Box, a “garden” house billed as the latest in sustainable design from Spanish architect Luis de Garrido, is a big wedge of green prefab whose midsection is flipped upward to create a right-triangle tower.A prototype of the dwelling, constructed from April 4 through 19, is getting a close look this week at Construmat, the biennial building show whose 30th edition is underway this week in Garrido’s hometown, Barcelona. The home’s modular construction features a variety of prefabricated panels – some cement-wood sandwiches, some reinforced concrete, some metal – “to show in one building the three most suitable systems of modular construction,” according to a Green Box press release.Garrido, whose R4House (built from six recycled shipping containers) attracted plenty of attention at the 2007 Construmat, went with all recycled and recovered materials for this project, which is designed to be efficiently constructed, repaired, and dismantled by a team of only five people. (Click here for a PDF of the press release on the project as well as additional photos of the structure.)The Green Box gardens – the carpets of vegetation on the sloping roof and the vertical surface of the tower – consist of hardy, drought-tolerant Mediterranean plants.last_img read more

Rethinking Referral Systems

The meeting gathered together a group of professionals working on improving referral systems in low resource settings, including people from the maternal and newborn health, transport, roads, and emergency medicine fields. The Director of AMDD, Lynn Freedman, started the meeting by posting a quote from Albert Einstein, who said, “Everything should be made as simple as possible, but not simpler.” She used this quote to encourage the participants to expand our thinking about referral systems for maternal and newborn health to embrace a “systems perspective” – a perspective that recognizes that systems are complex and non-linear, that they adapt to innovation and respond to feedback. This perspective recognizes that the parts of a system can’t be separated from the whole. These are abstract ideas but we had the opportunity to translate them into more concrete terms by drawing pictures in small groups of a maternal and newborn health referral system – trying to incorporate its structures, viewpoints, responsibilities, and processes.Once the drawings were completed, it was obvious that the groups recognized the complexity of referral systems – these were messy, dense drawings! But, it was also obvious that there were many entry points at which improvements could be made – starting at the community level and reaching into comprehensive emergency obstetric care facilities. We spent the next two days discussing these issues, listening to fascinating presentations about work going on in the field (cell phone applications, electronic medical records, GIS modeling, call centers), and working on a decision guide, and research agenda. It was a stimulating couple of days and we all came up with follow up actions we planned to take within our own organizations. My commitment was to share this information with those who read our blog and make sure you know where to get the materials presented at the meeting as well as some great background resources. Click here for these materials and check back because a report on the meeting and other materials will also be added shortly.Share this:last_img read more

The state government including Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was concerned with the rainfall deficit and the fear of cultivation being hit loomed large. Most of the districts in South Bengal were registering 50 per cent lesser rainfall. The insufficient rainfall had also led to minimum storage of water in the dams that are used for irrigation.
