first_imgImmigration Proposed immigration law could see tighter restrictionsBY Immigration Attorney Caroly PedersenOn February 7th, Republican Senators unveiled proposed immigration legislation which could dramatically change America’s entire legal immigration system.Called the “Reforming American Immigration for Strong Employment Act” the proposal intends to cut all legal immigration by 50 percent, exclude parents of citizens from the current special designation as “immediate relatives” and force them to wait in long visa lines, eliminate the yearly diversity (Visa Lottery) program, and cut refugee visas by half. Most tragically, the measure would eliminate all immigrant visas for adult children of U.S. citizens and residents, and brothers and sisters of U.S. Citizens. Under the proposal only spouses and unmarried minor children of citizens and permanent residents would be eligible to obtain Green Cards.Introduced by Republican senators Tom Cotton and David Perdue, the Act, would dramatically alter our current legal immigration laws and by Cotton’s own estimate, “cut annual immigration in half, from 1 million to 500,000 green cards per year”. An exception in the proposal would allow qualifying elderly parents to obtain temporary visas to stay with sponsoring U.S. Citizen children in the U.S., but would require proof of health insurance and not allow the parents to work or receive public benefits.Cotton reportedly told reporters.“He strongly supports the broad concept of moving legal immigration towards a merit-based system,”.The Senate Bill is expected to be introduced in the coming weeks, and as we now  know, things are changing at lightning speed. So with family immigration under fire, it’s only a matter of time before some version of a Restrictionist  immigration Bill is signed into law by Trump. As a result, U.S. Citizens should not delay in filing petitions for Parents, adult Children (single and married) and Siblings now! Similarly, U.S.  Residents (Green Card holders) should file petitions to sponsor their adult single children as well. As in the past, immigrant petitions for all these family members filed before the law changes, will remain valid in the future, even if family categories are later restricted or eliminated. This radical immigration proposal could be the start of similar legislation to come under the Republican controlled Congress and Whitehouse. There are few limits on their powers, except public opinion! This is your opportunity to voice your opposition to any Congressional proposals to restrict legal immigration, before it’s too late! Call your local Senators now and tell them you do NOT support the Reforming American Immigration for Strong Employment Act and want to stop any efforts to restrict legal immigration. For Florida, you can call your Senators at: Democratic Sen. Nelson : 202-224-5274 and Republican Sen. Rubio: 202-224-3041last_img read more

William Hill makes COD not FIFA 17 its Christmas favourite

first_imgShare StumbleUpon Even if you don’t know your League of Legends from your CSGO you can still bet on gaming at William Hill with the bookmaker offering a market for which title will be the Christmas number one video game.As it stands Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare has recaptured the top spot in the gaming charts and is priced a strong favourite at 2/5 to capture the third year in a row. As many would have expected FIFA 17 is in second place in the betting at 7/4 and it looks like a straight race between the two with few other contenders. Next in line is the latest in the Final Fantasy franchise all the way out at 12/1.COD’s direct contender Battlefield 1 is out there at 20/1 despite generally being the better reviewed of the pair. William Hill Spokesman Joe Crilly commented: “It looks like a straight shootout between COD and FIFA, as it has been for the past couple of years and Activision look to once again have the march on EA.”If gaming isn’t your thing, William Hill also has a Christmas focused TV market with Mrs Brown’s Boys the favourite to be the most watched TV show on Christmas Day. The bookmaker has placed  at 7/4 just ahead of the Strictly Christmas Special at 2/1.Crilly continued: “Mrs Brown’s Boys has won the race the last couple of years to be the most watched show but this year, the success of Strictly and the fact that this is the last GBBO on the beeb means that one of these two could steal the crown.”(Image Credit) Related Articles Share SBC Magazine Issue 10: Kaizen Gaming rebrand and focus for William Hill CEO August 25, 2020 Submit William Hill accelerates transformation agenda to overcome COVID realities August 5, 2020 Gamesys tops list for GambleAware Q1 donations July 10, 2020last_img read more

Luiz Gustavo Zonca: Sportradar AG: Insiders Take… Colombia’s Open Opportunity

first_img Björn Nilsson: How Triggy is delivering digestible data through pre-set triggers August 28, 2020 Submit The opening of the US sports betting market is dominating the industry’s current context and agenda. However, all betting stakeholders should keep a close eye on Colombia’s liberalised and revamped betting marketplace. Gaining an insiders take, SBC speaks to Luiz Gustavo Zonca, Managing Director of LATAM Sportradar AG on Colombia’s initial progress, and how its agenda could impact and influence further LATAM territories to liberalise sports betting…______________________SBC: As an organisation, Sportradar has worked with multiple LatAm government and sporting bodies. What principal concerns do they share with regards to betting? LGZ: Of course for us at Sportradar the priority, as for everyone we work with, is to make sure that any betting framework is the best: in terms of oversight, value, responsibility and integrity. We have found state authorities, regulators and sports bodies to be hungry to understand and learn about how others have done it right and how pieces can be assembled to create the optimal ecosystem.SBC: The Colombian regulated betting market has gained a fair amount of attention from European operators. How important is an effective Colombian market with regards to expanding sports betting within LatAm jurisdictions?LGZ: Colombia is a critical market in the region for a number of reasons: a) the country is of a significant size; b) the population of the country is 50 million, and c) the country is super passionate about sports. In this context, no one should be surprised the world’s biggest operators are paying close attention and that their investments in the country are gaining the attention of other countries in the Latam region. From my point of view, what is evolving in Colombia is definitely causing an acceleration in the speed of regulation in other countries. It is becoming increasingly clear that delays in their own country’s regulatory process is leading to lost opportunities.SBC: Can LatAm nations develop a single betting industry code to allow for a unified business framework, or is this an unrealistic process?LGZ: This is a really fascinating proposition with obvious advantages. But where we now are in the journey, my sense is that this is incredibly unlikely. Some countries remain unconvinced about opening up regulated markets. Furthermore, some have differences from province-to-province…At the end of the day, the cultures across the continent are completely different and their legislative frameworks are totally different. All of that renders the chances of a single code or framework incredibly slim.SBC: What LATAM factors and dynamics do you believe are the most underserved or misunderstood by foreign enterprises targeting the region?LGZ: One clear misunderstanding that non-native entrants into the region struggle with is the cultural differences across countries and the region. It becomes all too easy to assume that “if we roll something out across the Spanish language countries, that will work”. The language may be the same, but the culture is a completely different situation. Ultimately the Latam region is not a homogenous group. Each country deserves and needs a separate analysis and strategy.Another important issue we see is the assumption that the guys from overseas think they can run the show here. In my own personal opinion, there are a serious shortcoming with that, as local knowledge, relationships and understandings are critical. More and more I see operators fail because they do not recognise this reality. The result: heavy investments managed from Europe or Asia returning low profits.SBC: For a developing market such as LATAM, how important is it for early stakeholders to develop a ‘sustainable and responsible’ gambling framework to adhere to?LGZ: In all honesty, this could not be more important. Creating the right framework with the right ingredients, elements and priorities will then be the foundation, indeed the armour, which will protect the new environment and ventures in the critical early stages. Get this right and the markets will flourish. Get this wrong and the markets will struggle and perhaps more frustratingly, may find it difficult to ‘go back’ and try to rectify things later._____________Luiz Gustavo Zonca – Managing Director – LATAM Sportradar AG  David Lampitt, Sportradar: F1 presents betting’s most sizeable opportunity August 14, 2020 Share Sharecenter_img Sportradar combats social media abuse with player protection solution August 17, 2020 Related Articles International expansion and new market opportunities will be discussed and debated at the upcoming ‘Betting on Sports Conference’ (#boscon2018 – Olympia London- 17-20 September 2018). Jeremy Wright – ‘This is not the end of the conversation on problem gambling’

first_img Related Articles Playtech goes live in the US with bet365 August 7, 2020 SBC Magazine Issue 10: Kaizen Gaming rebrand and focus for William Hill CEO August 25, 2020 Share UKGC launches fourth National Lottery licence competition August 28, 2020 Submit Share StumbleUpon Addressing the House of Commons this afternoon, Jeremy Wright – UK Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport – said that the government is still reviewing the option of introducing a ‘mandatory levy’ to help national health stakeholders raise funds and resources for tackling problem gambling harms.Wright has acknowledged the ‘commitment of increased funding’ pledged this morning by leading UK betting operators bet365, William Hill, Sky Betting & Gaming, GVC Holdings and Flutter Entertainment.“Today five of the biggest gambling companies have agreed on a series of measures which will deliver real and meaningful progress on support for problem gamblers,” said Wright.Nevertheless, Wright warns that a mandatory 1% gross-gaming-yield levy could still be enforced on UK licensed betting incumbents if problem gambling support targets are not met.Wright underlines that UK health services cannot afford a further repeat of 2018, which saw the UK betting sector generate less than £10 million for problem gambling and treatment directives.Despite UK betting’s ‘Top 5’ operators promising a ‘cumulative £100 million on treatment over the next four years’, Wright warns the industry that ‘this is not the end of the conversation’.Whilst the ‘package of measures’ put forward by UK betting leading operators represents progress on funding, treatment, responsibility and collaborative factors, he warns that all industry incumbents have a duty to support UK health networks tackling problem gambling.“I believe it is reasonable for the biggest companies with the largest reach and the most resources to do more and show leadership,” he added. “But the industry as a whole needs to engage in tackling problem gambling, and we want other firms to look at what they can also do to step up.”last_img read more

Rada approves SoP’s redrafted bill but heavy licensing fees remain on Ukraine’s gambling agenda

It received the highest appraisal by the Rada’s committee on finances and taxation. The provisions of the redrafted Bill 2285-D allow for licenses in seven core ‘gambling activities’ – land-based casino, online casino, land-based betting, online sports betting, slots arcade, lotteries and online poker. Meanwhile, tech and software incumbents will have to register for a ‘Gambling Services’ license.Seeking market investment, the Ukraine government will establish an ‘investor licence’ criteria to fund gambling investment projects, of which Bill 2285-D at present does not specify criteria.Further amendments will see the government scrap its ‘auction licensing process’ and the fixed number of licenses that will be made available. Despite amending licensing conditions, international investors will be watchful of the government’s complex and costly licensing fee structures.“Ukraine License fees are calculated on the basis of the level of minimal wage amount set by the Ukrainian budget law for each year,” read the initial assessment of Bill 2285-D by international law firm Dentons Russia/Ukraine unit.“Starting from 1 January 2020 equals to 4,723 Hryvnia (approx. EUR 180); licensee fees are calculated on the basis of a 5-year term. For instance, the price of the casino license for Kyiv (hotel with more than 200 rooms) is calculated in the following way: EUR 180 * 60,000 (number of minimum wage amounts for such license according to the draft law) = EUR 10,800,000.”Ukraine’s Rada maintains its commitment to establishing a new independent regulatory body, which will establish a registry monitoring gambling incumbents and their engagements.
