An ensemble of two houses with a connecting portico is embedded on the edge of a historically agricultural, today heterogeneously cultivated village in the Rhine Valley of Switzerland. The core idea of the project is based on the urban void. Two parallel set apartment buildings, a portico and a former farmhouse create a clearly composed courtyard.Save this picture!© Johanna MutherBoth houses can host up to three different units because of a hierarchically formulated structure which allows a simple and variable floor plan. They allow different ways of living or working. Like a backbone, a solid in-situ concrete core connects the staircase and the main entrance with a solid loggia. This core hosts all serving rooms and functions as a storage-mass in the centre of a timber structure.Save this picture!SketchRaised from the courtyard level, on a concrete plinth, the prefabricated timber facade is constructed and also formally treated, as a multilayered gown. It forms the autonomous surface of the buildings.Save this picture!© Johanna MutherThe outside appearance of the ensemble is characterised by its composite treatment of different materials and surfaces, as well as a contradictory nature in structure and form. Against the expression of the local timber „Veranda“, an almost independent in-situ concrete-structure forms the main facade facing west towards the district road.  Set transversely to the main alignment of the two volumes, the open structure indicates the end of the ensemble but also of the rhythmical perforated, nearly industrial expression of the eave-walls. Based on simple means, like horizontal slabs and pillars, the loggia expresses a pictorial quality through its anti-tectonic indications that mark the border between the private and public space. As a counterpart to this structure, the portico on the east side defines a facade to the courtyard. It connects the two houses physically and provides a sheltered space.Save this picture!Ground FloorTo reinterpret relationships between the various raw and directly used materials of the main construction, paint and pigment are used. Literally thin and economical in means, these treatments implement an architectonical, not merely technical approach, without losing the haptic qualities of the surface below Save this picture!© Johanna MutherProject gallerySee allShow lessThe Residential, Monumental, Gregarious and Bucolic Scales of Lucio Costa’s BrasiliaArticlesMuseum of the Second World War / Studio Architektoniczne KwadratSelected ProjectsProject locationAddress:9464 Rüthi, SwitzerlandLocation to be used only as a reference. This project consists of a renovation of a residence that already belonged to the owners’ family. The original construction had already undergone several renovations and lost its architectural value, but its position on the site and interior distribution with half levels were correct. After the acquisition of the neighbor lot, it was necessary a great reform and adequacy updating the interiors of the property.Save this picture!© Fran ParenteSave this picture!Ground Floor PlanSave this picture!© Fran ParenteThe façade openings have been revisited. Internal walls and one of the stairs were suppressed, and the old gable roof was removed making the rooftop a pleasant space of leisure. The house gained a new relationship with the outside area. In the new plot, it was designed a new garage, swimming pool, sauna, and leisure area. Save this picture!© Fran ParenteA metal structure was connected to the construction; with a playful character that follows the existing internal levels, it connects the pool, passes through the rooms until reaching the roof, where an elliptical volume was created and houses the technical area and a living environment. It also works as a porch and has a slide and a fireman pole for the kids to go down from the first floor to the ground level.Save this picture!© Fran ParenteWhite was chosen as the predominant tone of the design. It appears on the Portuguese mosaic floor of the outside area, on the house internal and external walls and on the metal structure. In the interiors, a gray concresteel floor visually connects the levels and dialogues with the ribbed concrete slab that emerged throughout the demolition and was added to the project.Save this picture!© Fran ParenteSave this picture!Section ASave this picture!© Fran ParenteProject gallerySee allShow lessCHYBIK + KRISTOF Begins Construction of Arched Winery and Amphitheater in the Czech …Architecture NewsTM House / CDM Casas de MéxicoSelected Projects Share Save this picture!© Fran Parente+ 25Curated by Matheus Pereira Share Photographs:  Fran Parente Manufacturers Brands with products used in this architecture project Brazillast_img

first_img By Gary Truitt – Mar 19, 2015 Farmers Stand Against #NewMacDonald Campaign Home News Feed Farmers Stand Against #NewMacDonald Campaign It is time to stand up and fight!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!The Pork Network reports farmers across the agriculture industry have joined to fight the hashtag New MacDonald (#NewMacDonald) campaign led by Only Organic – a group that represents many of the largest organic companies in the U.S. – that began in March. This new campaign started with a video of school children singing a dark version of Old MacDonald Had a Farm. Once it was released – agriculturalists across the U.S. – including organic farmers – joined the conversation on Twitter and went against the company for its negative attacks, false accusations and unethical propaganda. Unfortunately – Animal Ag Alliance Communications Director Hannah Thompson says the farmer engagement was being blocked, ignored or labeled as hating and trolling by other chat participants. Thompson says the majority of #NewMacDonald dissenters were supportive of organic as a valid production and consumption choice – just not one that should be made based on fear. U.S. Farmers & Ranchers Alliance CEO Randy Krotz says big, small, organic and conventional farmers stood together in the face of blatant mistruths about the food supply and explained transparently what they do and how they do it to help consumers feel better about how food is grown and raised.
