(Eli Hartman|Odessa American) MIDLAND On May 21, campers across the country will participate in the National Backyard Campout, put on by the organization Trail Life USA.With COVID-19 forcing numerous cancellations on camping trips around the world, Trail Life USA is trying to encourage families to make memories during the COVID-19 lockdown.“With everything that’s going on with the virus, it was just encouragement for the kids to get out and do stuff,” Midland troop 1911 Trail Life USA leader Joshua Leeper said. “As human beings, we’re social and it’s hard to do a different routine than what you’re used to, whether it’s going to school during the day or work and then all of sudden, doing a 180 and not seeing those people so this is an encouragement to get people to go out and actually do something. We don’t have to be together in order to camp out or do an activity. We can just simply participate with our families in the backyard.”Leeper said that one of the benefits of this campout is for families to get a chance to spend time with each other in ways that they can be introduced to different skills.“A lot of times, we’re just together as a troop,” Leeper said. “The families know what’s going on but at the same time, it gives them a chance to do basic (camping) stuff like setting up a tent. Setting up a campfire and just giving them an opportunity. It’s also more of an encouragement to just get out and do things.”Trail Life USA is an organization that is similar to the Boy Scouts of America and was created in 2013.It is a Christian-based organization that currently has over 30,000 members in 830-plus troops across all 50 states.According to Leeper, there are about 18 members, all ranging from kindergarten to sophomores in high school, in Midland’s Troop 1911.While most places have since reopened after shutting down last year, Leeper says their troop has continued to proceed with caution when doing activities and meetings. The troop meets twice every month and are usually outdoors for their meetings.Last year, they, along with every organization, were forced to shut down for a little bit after the pandemic reached North America.“Well, at the beginning, everything was so unknown so we just shut down as everything did,” Leeper said. “We actually meet in a barn so I’d say the majority of our meetings are outside, in a barn. We’re outside doing stuff. We rarely meet indoors. When it was freezing, we didn’t meet.”The organization is encouraging families to share their own moments with others from camping via photo and video posts and are also urged to respect all emergency restrictions in their area, including self-isolating and social distancing from non-family members, according to a press release from its website.Trail Life USA National Backyard Concert and Campout WhatsApp Pinterest Pinterest Facebooklast_img

first_imgAs the aftermath of Equifax’s data breach is in full effect, the credit reporting company is quickly facing investigations.ClassAction.com has already filed a lawsuit on behalf of the estimated 143 million consumer records affected by the Equifax data breach.Attorney John Yanchunis of ClassAction.com and Morgan & Morgan filed the complaint, which noted that lead plaintiffs Jamie McGonnigal and Brian Spector individually, and on behalf of all others similarly situated, bring this class action case against Equifax for its, “gargantuan failures to secure and safeguard consumers’ personally identifiable information.”Equifax announced it had discovered the cyber security incident (data breach), yet allegedly failed to provide timely, accurate, and adequate notice to consumers until more than a month later, according to the complaint.Although Equifax has acknowledged that it discovered the breach on July 29, 2017, the lawsuit accuses three Equifax managers of selling their stock in Equifax prior to the data breach announcement.”Equifax has acknowledged that it discovered the breach on July 29th. What it hasn’t explained is why it waited so long to make an announcement that the breach had occurred,” Yunchunis said. “The profiteering before the company’s announcement is astounding.”According to the complaint, Plaintiffs seek, “statutory damages under the Fair Credit Reporting Act (“FCRA”) and state consumer protection statutes, reimbursement of out-of-pocket losses and other compensatory damages, credit monitoring services beyond Equifax’s current two-year offer, and an order requiring Equifax to improve their data security measures.”Yanchunis has served as the lead counsel for a number of data breach cases, and according to ClassAction.com, he finds Equifax’s situation shocking.”Equifax contains one of the largest databases of consumer information and they should have been better prepared for any attempt to penetrate its systems,” Yanchunis said. The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau is also looking into the data breach and Equifax’s response, Bloomberg reported. The FIR has been lodged against them at the instance of one Sanju Turaha at the Civil Lines police station of Rampur under Sections 153B (imputations, assertions prejudicial to national integration) and 505(2) (public mischief) of IPC. The matter finds its genesis from a report run by the Wire on January 30 which published the claims of Navreet Singh’s grandfather Hardeep Singh Dibdiba that his death was due to a bullet injury from a police gun fire was not due to the overturning of the tractor as alleged by the Delhi police. In the report, the 65-yrs old grandfather goes on to claim that the doctor who performed Navreet’s autopsy had told him that there was a bullet injury on Navreet’s body but he cannot do anything as his “hands are tied”. The report was authored by Ismat Ara and was shared by Varadarajan on his Twitter account. Responding to Varadarajan’s tweet, the Rampur District Magistrate had tweeted, “Hope you understand your story could cause law and order problem here. It has already caused tensed situation here. Responsibility?” The matter came before the Sessions Judge, Rampur, on Thursday where the duo expressed apprehension of arrest and sought interim protection. They urged the Court to grant them interim bail application until the case is disposed of. The District Government Advocate on the other hand sought time to produce status report and the case diary. Keeping these facts and circumstances in mind, the Sessions Judge was allowed the prayer and stayed their arrests. “The applicants have expressed the possibility of getting arrested. At this stage, only the FIR report is available. Looking at the facts and circumstances of the matter, applicants Siddharth Varadarajan and Ismat Ara have been granted interim bail and their arrests in this matter have been stayed,” the order stated. In a related news, the Delhi High Court on Wednesday issued notice on a petition filed by Dibdiba, seeking a Court monitored probe in to Navreet’s death.Subscribe to LiveLaw, enjoy Ad free version and other unlimited features, just INR 599 Click here to Subscribe.
