No sooner had we learned to adapt to, and even cherish, the quiet and solitude, than they returned home and presented us with an altogether unforeseen challenge: the crowded nest syndrome. Increasingly, this “boomerang generation” is moving back in with their parents, taking up residence with little apparent desire or capacity to become independent, self-reliant adults. What are the causes of this “failure to launch”? What can we do to encourage our young adults to break out of their dependency?
