Photo courtesy La Canada Presbyterian ChurchJoin La Cañada Presbyterian Church (LCPC) on Sunday, October 18, at 9:30 a.m. in Fellowship Hall as Dr. Jeffrey Prater talks about the boomerang generation. Dr. Prater states, “We parents expended enormous effort to prepare ourselves for the empty nest syndrome as we anticipated our high schoolers going off to college. No sooner had we learned to adapt to, and even cherish, the quiet and solitude, than they returned home and presented us with an altogether unforeseen challenge: the crowded nest syndrome. Increasingly, this “boomerang generation” is moving back in with their parents, taking up residence with little apparent desire or capacity to become independent, self-reliant adults. What are the causes of this “failure to launch”? What can we do to encourage our young adults to break out of their dependency? And how can we help our young children now to prevent our homes from becoming the Hotel California?”Guest speaker, Dr. Jeffrey Prater, has spoken numerous times both at Growing Families and LCPC’s Parent Education program. He has a Doctorate in Psychology from Fuller Seminary and is co-founder of Integrated Learning Solutions and founder and director of Psychology Resources Consultants.Growing Families is a monthly seminar-type class at the La Cañada Presbyterian Church for parents and grandparents, led by a variety of people; some are experts in the field of child development, psychology, and education while others are parents who offer to others what has worked for their families.La Cañada Presbyterian Church, located at 626 Foothill Blvd., offers a wide range of activities throughout each week for families and people of all generations, and prides itself on making anyone who steps onto campus feel welcome.
