BY        ZULHILMI ZAINAL       Follow on Twitter Negeri Sembilan’s Malaysia Cup run ended at the group stage, when they were held to a goalless draw at home by PKNP FC in their last group match on Saturday.Although the bottom-placed hosts’ chances were slim, they could still realistically qualify for the quarter-finals. They needed to defeat the visitors, who have already confirmed their first place finish in Group A, while hoping that the other match in the group, between second-placed Pahang and third placed T-Team at the Darulmakmur Stadium would end in a draw.Despite creating several chances including two chances that hit the PKNP goalposts, the Deers were unable to break the deadlock, and the first half ended goalless. Negeri boss Asri Ninggal introduced Japanese-Brazilian hitman midway through the second half to put more pressure on the visitors, but PKNP’s defence held fast.Abu Bakar Fadzim’s charges, playing without pressure, managed to hit Negeri on counter attacks now and then, but their attempts were rarely on target; including those had by striker Shahrel Fikri Fauzzi, who recently received his first call-up to the Malaysia national team. The match ended in a goalless stalemate, a result that did not matter in the end for the hosts as Pahang have beaten T-Team 3-2. But the Negeri fans will surely not feel too hard done in by the exit, considering that their team, currently third in the Premier League standings with three rounds left, are in the hunt for promotion to the Super League, something that have eluded them in the past few years.Negeri Sembilan: Kaharuddin (GK), Nasriq (C), Vidic, Fauzan, Faizal, Hazrul, Aroon, Anwar, Shahrul, Sean, Tuck.PKNP: Amin (GK), Krjauklis, Irwan, Hamizul, Khairul, Raffi, Shahrel (C), Sukri, Gilberto, Syamin, Fadhil. read morelast_img
